The 2 Minute Warning
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. Matt. 24:36
In the NFL, the referees signify to the coaches and the teams when there is 2 minutes of game time remaining in the first half (2nd quarter) and the end of the game (4th quarter). This lets both teams know there is not a lot of time left to score or to keep the opposition from scoring in an effort to win the game. The defense stiffens because they know that the offense is going to be playing with a sense urgency to score before the 2 minutes elapse. The offense employ special plays during the final 2 minutes of the game. During the game the offense will usually gather in a huddle between plays to discuss the best play to call according to the down and distance to get a first down or to score a touchdown. However, during the 2 minute drill, the offense will forgo getting in a huddle after every play. They normally call the plays at the line of scrimmage or they get the plays from the coaches through hand signals on the sideline.
Unfortunately, life does not operate the same way. Life does not come with a 2 minute warning. No one knows the day nor the hour of Our Lord’s return. Neither do we know when our time on earth will expire. So as believers we need to be purposeful and diligent to shine our light everyday. Jesus gave the 2 minute warning over two thousand years ago when He gave the disciples the Great Commission, to go and make disciples, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey all that He commanded. After the disciples received power from the Holy Spirit they immediately began to change the world. Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Jesus intended for us to be on the field and engaged in disciple making. Saints, time is running out, the game clock is ticking. We cannot remain on the bench or even in the stands. We need to get on the field of play and share our faith and disciple believers to spiritual maturity. The 2 minute warning has been given.
